Nebraska Men lost to Mississippi

March 24th, 2008 · No Comments

Well, the Nebraska men and women have been doing pretty well in their respective post season tournaments. The ladies won their first round game against Xavier for their first NCAA tournament win since the 1990s. The men also won their first round basketball game in the NIT tournament. Aleks Maric didn’t play very well, a good friend of mine told me. He attended the game and was kind of disappointed in the Huskers, despite their victory.

I did watch the Husker women play Xavier yesterday afternoon. The women were hot and stayed ahead about ten points for most of the game, but let it slip a little in the closing minutes. I thought they almost piss it down their leg, but, thank heavens they arose victorious!

I also watched a full days worth of mens NCAA tournament games on Sunday. This is in addition to the games I watched on the opening day (Thursday), Friday, and Saturday. I haven’t watched this much basketball in such a long time. I really do like this time of year, it kind of reminds me of my days in high school when I played basketball. Those were the days! Now that I’m out of high school, been through college (twice, wink wink), and in the working world – I really do miss the days of fierce competition where wars were waged on the hardwood. I used to always jump for my team at the opening tip off, and I do get a little nostalgic when I see other players wishing each other good luck and slapping hands.

Sorry I got off topic for a little bit there! The next games for the University of Nebraska men and women basketball teams are Mississippi and Maryland, respectively. Hold the phones… Nebraska just lost to Mississippi in overtime 85-75. Dang! I was hoping they’d make it far into the NIT since they barely missed getting into the NCAA. Well, I hope the women can at least go a little farther.

Nebraska vs. Missouri 2008 predictions

February 15th, 2008 · No Comments

Here are some random Nebraska versus Missouri Tiger men’s basketball predictions from around the world wide internet. Booya!

Huskers play Mizzou tonight at home, everyone is back for them but Hannah, they only have one road win and I expect a close win. Then they go on the road to Iowa St to play them again, I think that should be a win also, but it will be very close.

Missouri won 86-78.

I didn’t get to see the game, so I don’t know what went wrong.

But if I had to guess I would say–missed free throws, bad shooting, and Maric played like sheet.

missouri basketball players

I’m not a huge fan of Maric, but 32 points, 16 boards, 10 of 18 from the field and 12 of 14 from the line AIN’T a bad night…

You were right about the free-throws. We missed a lot of 1st shots on 2 shot attempts. (Harley did hit 2 clutch free throws to put it in OT). Maric was on fire, he had 32 points and around 15 boards (can’t remember exact #).

The refs really screwed us on a few calls and we got scorched by the 3 once again.

Uhh….well….why would you be a huge fan of Maric?? You’re a Missouri fan, he plays for Nebraska. THat’s like me saying, I’m not a huge fan of Chase Daniel. Of course I’m not!

What he wanted to say was he was a huge fan of Doc redshirting those 4 players that will kick MU’s ass for the next 4 years.

You’re right. That is an awesome night. He’s been playing great as of late.

But like I said… I didn’t see the game. I only saw the score scroll across the bottom of my tv last night.

Turns out that our guys not getting the ball to Maric in overtime pretty much cost us the game. That’s a new one for this year.

2008 Nebraska Football Predictions

February 12th, 2008 · No Comments

Here are a variety of Nebraska football predictions from a few Husker Nation fans.

Don’t hold me to these, I will most likely change them before the season starts.

Let me start off by saying that I don’t think we lose that much from last year. Yes we lose those like Ruud and others, but most of them were under-achievers anyway. I think their backups looked as good or better then them.

Remember last year in the first half of a couple games. I think specifically the A&M game, the Texas game, the Kansas game and maybe more… Watson called the plays. We scored points. We looked GOOD until Callahan started calling the games again.

I think with Watson calling the plays we will be fine on O.

We lose some starters from a D that was very underachieving all year. Just about anyone is better the Coz.

What it all boils down to is this:
How fast can Bo turn around the defense?

If he can turn it around and turn into just somewhat of a good defense this year we will be solid. If he can work miracles and turn it into top 30 or top 20 then I would bow down to the Great Pelini 5 times a day.

I would say a good, safe prediction for next year is 8 wins.
My prediction: is 9 or 10 wins
If Bo works miracles: 11+ wins

In response:

I think Coach Pelini will get the defense working as he did when he was here. But he can only do so much with the talent he has to work with.

I really do not know that we lost a lot. If your not here to play, I don’t care how good you are suppose to be, most did not give the effort to win is my read. Pelini will play people that want to play and work hard at it. He is a motivator and we may see some very different people than what we expect. He is known for his defensive skills. He will not turn his back on that. I would rather have a player that wanted it more than anything going 110 percent every play than what we had last year. Effort, never say die attitude will make the difference some games.

I think we will win the games we are suppose to. Be close in most of the ones that are questionable, but he can not work miracles. We lose, badly to Texas Tech and Oklahoma and play Missouri and Kansas close, but lose is my guess. Va Tech is a chance, because they will not know what to expect from him that early in the season. There offense has not been to hot, so it could be a very even battle right down to the end.

I will be happy if I see effort from every single player. I don’t want to hear about our players in the bars after the games. I want total anger when they have lost. I want to see blackshirt play, or no black shirts awarded. I want intensity from the opening kick to the last second on the clock. If I see those things I will be happy with our team. I am not stuck on a certain number to satisfy me. Just a team that wants to win more than life itself. We see those things we will turn the corner soon. Maybe this year maybe not. But show those key ingredients and I will support them for ever.

My guess is 8-4 and going to a descent bowl. We will not win the North.

In response:

Thats it mad.gif I’ve had it up to here (holds hand up to middle of forehead) with people saying the Cyclones seriously suck. I’m going to let you in on a little secret here. Bo might end up being the greatest coach in Nebraska football history…matter of fact, I’m all for that…but not with the players he has on the team right now. It’s going to take a few years to change the mindset of mediocrity that Cally taught them.

“We lost a lot of our defensive starters… who cares? This just in: our defense was one of the worst in the country last year. Getting those guys off the field is a good thing. I’ve been waiting for years for Corey and Bo to graduate. We will have VERY significant defensive improvement this year and our offense will continue to roll.”

You bet you lost some starters…and if they weren’t the best you had in the stable why were they starting in the first place? That leads me to believe that, unless Cally is a total retard who had no intention of even trying to win, the starters who left were better than what was on the bench…so unless you get some recruits capable of starting from day one…it’s going to be a long season.

The only way NU is going to really make strides on defense and offense is with a complete attitude change. In the four years Cally was there the attitude went from “We’re gonna kill these guys” to “Who cares?”. Dominance to mediocrity to, finally, antipathy. Now you’re fully stocked with Cally players who are used to the Cally way of doing things…going out and hoping to win instead of knowing they are going to win. Playing good enough to get by….That attitude has got to change or you’re going nowhere. It’ll be interesting to see if Bo can motivate these guys or if the Cally era is too deeply ingrained in them to ever get them playing to their full potential. If it is, you may be waiting until Bo can get his own recruits in there before there is any return to prominence.

And ISU WILL take you guys out this year…it’s at Ames and it’s a leap year. We always win in Ames in games played in leap years. Check it out yourselves if you don’t believe me.

In response:

The problem with trying to guess about next season is this. We have no idea what kind of talent we really have on this team, because we had Callahan and Cosgrove coaching it. If Pelini can come it and put a huge-ass chip on the shoulder of every single player, and get the best possible effort out of them every single play, we could see a miraculous season. I personally feel we have talent on this team. We have speed, and we have the potential to do some amazing things. However Callahan had no aptitude for drawing out talent from great players, much less the ability to take average players and make them more. Pelini, so far as we’ve seen, has both.

Our offense crackled at times last year. If we can continue that pace with Ganz, improve the O-line and running game, and have a respectable defense, I see no reason we shouldn’t be right back in the Big XII Championship hunt. Our problems last year were mental, for the most part, and on defense a bit physical, too. But I don’t think I saw much that can’t be corrected by some good coaching and an attitude adjustment.

Go Big Red.

In response:

Okay, I know all of you are excited to hear what some random guy on a random message board has to say about the Huskers’ upcoming season, so here we go:

Western Michigan – Win (1-0)

San Jose State – Win (2-0)

New Mexico State – Win (3-0)

Virginia Tech – Win – Kansas beat them in the Orange Bowl. I think we will win against Kansas this season, so look at the explanation down below. (4-0)

Missouri – Loss – This is a tough one. Missouri should be a great team for the upcoming season, but everyone also thought Nebraska was going to be a great team in 2007 and look what happened. In my opinion, I think Mizzou will remain a great team and win the North again. Fortunately for Nebraska fans, the game will be much closer than 41 to 6. smile.gif (4-1)

Texas Tech – Loss – This is the first away game, and it will be against a very solid TT team. I just don’t think the Huskers have the speed on defense to keep up with the RR’s offense (unless the S&C drastically improves this during winter conditioning). (4-2)

Iowa State – Win – No explanation needed. (5-2)

Baylor – Win – See “Iowa State”. (6-2)

Oklahoma – Loss – The Big 12 will be pumping out alot of quality teams this season, OU being included in this group. Don’t think the Huskers will win, but they will put up a HUGE fight and the game will be fairly close. This is especially true since this game is towards the end of the season, and everything is figured out by now (i.e., which players will play which positions). (6-3)

Kansas – Win – Okay, so KU had a decent team last year. But in my opinion, it wasn’t as good as everyone thinks. The only good team they faced all year was Mizzou, and they lost to them. The rest of the teams they played were mediocre (i.e., CU, A&M), and they barely ended up winning against them. NU scored 39 points on them last season…and still lost! With a halfway decent defense, and the fact that this is a home game, I think KU is going to be in some trouble. (7-3)

Kansas State – Win – Josh who? Expect this Josh character to get roughed up big time in this game. Huskers roll over Kansas State Community College (8-3)

Colorado – Win – Home game against CU = Husker victory. Look, we were dominating them going into the half last season, and then our wonderful “defense” started to do what they did best last season…suck. I don’t think this game will even be close. (9-3)

Bowl game – Don’t know, depends on who we are against…

End of season before Bowl Game record: 9-3

I’m looking forward to the upcoming season. I’m mostly looking forward to see what the defense will look like once all players have been evaluated, and Bo and his assistants decide where each player should go. Samething goes for the offensive side of the ball, but in my opinion, the offense was fairly good last season.

Is it September yet?

In response:

i think parity has almost taken over the validity of the predictions of college football :

My 2008 Husker football predictions

first three games are must wins and basically scrimmages to hopefully “fine tune” the team

VT- they will be tougher than nails… I predict they’ll be a slight favorite in this game and it will be sort of the measuring stick for Bo and the team … in Lincoln I’ll say it’ll be a close game but VT wins

MU- this might be ugly… depending on the VT game… if they beat VT , look out MU.. if they lose,no matter what, MU has the advantage .. no question

TT- first roadie …. I don’t care … I think Bo and Co. come ready to bring it this game and they get the win

ISU – we saw how they played OU last year… I don’t think for one second we should overlook this team… I don’t care who’s coming back and who’s not

BU – just like the first three games… you just can’t overlook this team… period

OU- I think if they play to there full potential and OU has an off day we definitely have a chance here (OU always seems to have the most dominant team in the conference and eventually slips up and blows a game, kinda like ISU last year… hey it was close)

KU- they’ll be ready again, maybe undefeated, and NU will be in for a dog fight… I say NU by a score(so optimistic here)

KSU – is the third time a charm for Freeman ? I think he’ll have the toughest game in three tries

CU- they’ll win the game… it’ll be another dogfight and NU comes out on top at home

final regular season record 8-4

and a win in the bowl game 9-4 final record

SuperBowl shirts and hats

February 8th, 2008 · No Comments

What did everyone think of the Superbowl? Quite amazing, huh! Any Nebraska fans out there?

I am still reeling from the play involving Eli Manning throwing the football to David Tyree in the fourth quarter. It was awesome how Tyree leapt into the air and trapped the football to his helmet to complete the catch. Then seeing Plaxico score the final TD just made my heart dance.

At the closing minutes of the football broadcast, I noticed that the Giants already had hats and T-shirts printed up. What if they had lost? What would’ve happened to the massive quantity of shirts, sweatshirts, hats, caps, foam fingers, and numerous other fan items? I bet they donate them to Goodwill or some other charitable organization. Good for them.

This is where the funny part is. Do you think that there will be some families in the poorer nations of the world that will be wearing Superbowl fan gear? Maybe someone will be using a “Go Patriots!” foam finger for a pillow. This isn’t funny so I won’t talk about poor people wearing football apparel anymore.

However if you are a Nebraska fan, you have to check out this site that has nebraska shirts, nebraska football tickets, and other husker apparel. You won’t be disappointed.

Or, search for Superbowl shirts and hats by clicking in the search bar on the home page of HuskerAuctions.com.

Dreaming about Husker Football Tickets

Daydreams About Nebraska Football Tickets

So, here I sit, thinking about how nice a person must feel when they have Nebraska season football tickets. At one time in my life, I did have season Husker tickets – but I was a college student then! I remember when I had a season at a time access to Memorial Stadium to watch the Nebraska football team play on Saturdays. Since the student section is located right behind the marching band, the notes of the Husker tubas, trumpets, and drumline filled my ears.

Now it seems like it is nearly impossible to get a hold of a couple of season tickets for the Huskers. Now that Bo Pelini is the mind behind the machine, I’m sure these football tickets will be even HARDER to get.

Nebraska Football Tickets up for Auction

December 26th, 2007 · No Comments

You will be able to find the absolutely best prices on Nebraska football tickets at HuskerAuctions.com. As described by dictionary.com, a ticket is “a slip, usually of paper or cardboard, serving as evidence that the holder has paid a fare or admission or is entitled to some service, right, or the like: a railroad ticket; a theater ticket, a football ticket.” This is exactly the kind of ticket I’m talking about. One that grants a football fan admission into a Nebraska Cornhusker football game at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.

Reflecting about the significance of a piece of paper or cardboard granting admission into a football game makes me wonder how technology will maybe someday change how people gain access into sporting events. Will people download some special computer software or computer chip that will let Husker fans into Memorial Stadium? If anything changes in the area of Nebraska football tickets, I will be sorely disappointed. I for one keep all my old ticket stubs as a reminder of what sporting event or football game I attended. I keep them in a cardboard box and hide them in a special place that I can’t tell other Husker fans. I have a collection of about two hundred ticket stubs, some to music concerts, some to operas, and my favorite ones are the ones to Nebraska football games.

I also appreciate the ticket art that is illustrated on the face of the tickets. I am an artist myself, and would one day hope to have some of my art appear on a Nebraska football ticket. Usually a football or a football player on a grassy green field is shown on the ticket face, obviously in Nebraska colors: scarlet and cream. This artwork on the Husker tickets also makes them somewhat collectible. This is why I save them, I think. It kind of help dates the ticket and brings back memories of what happened on that particular day – either in your personal life or in the football game. Did Nebraska whoop up on some sucky team such as Nevada or Appalacian State? Or did we get pounded by USC? That is what I look to my Nebraska football ticket stubs for. A glimpse into the past and a reflection on why I like Cornhusker football so much.

Nebraska Jacket for Christmas!

December 25th, 2007 · No Comments

I got a Nebraska Jacket from Santa! I was so happy when I saw this fuzzy, red, warm and cuddly Nebraska Columbia jacket. Santa must really know I am a true-blue, die hard Husker fan. I had been having these recurring dreams about getting some sort of Nebraska apparel for Christmas, but I didn’t know what form of clothing it would come in.

If you’d like to get a red Nebraska Jacket like mine, click on over to the Nebraska Coats and Jackets page on HuskerAuctions.com. Here you can browse multiple listings on Husker coats for sale. There are many different varieties, such as black windbreaker type jackets, or red fuzzy Columbia jackets (like the one I received for Christmas). Check back often too, because the Husker jacket and coat page is updated hourly with new Nebraska merchandise you can choose to buy from.

I was thinking I was going to get perhaps a Nebraska tee shirt. But while opening my Christmas present, I noticed the red fuzziness of the jacket, and knew that it wasn’t made of cotton (it couldn’t be a t-shirt!). To go more in depth of my new amazing Husker jacket, I will describe it in full for you. The exterior of my coat is entirely red. The interior exposes how the pockets to the jacket are made.  It made of a sturdy, cotton blend grey material. Now, back to the exterior! It has the word, “HUSKERS” sewn in block letters near the neck, on the collar of the jacket. On the front, it has a large “N” sewn in white thread. I believe it also might say “Nebraska” on one of the sleeves near the shoulders. What a great gift for a Nebraska football fanatic!

I also recieved another Husker gift for Christmas. I’ll tell you about this present in a couple of days. Clue: It keeps you warm at night and it is Nebraska related. Yup, I got two things that were colored red and were designed to keep me warm. Either in the stands of Memorial Stadium or in the warmth of my bed, I will be one warm Husker fan.

Men’s Husker Basketball Tickets

December 21st, 2007 · No Comments

Here are some thoughts I’ll just throw out on Nebraska Basketball.

I’ve been to about twelve Nebraska basketball games in my life, and I used a ticket to get into each one. Men’s Husker basketball tickets are definitely not as hard to acquire as Nebraska football tickets are.  When I was in high school, some of my friends and I bought a pack of five basketball tickets. These are my first real memories of going to Nebraska basketball games. Scratch that. I remember going to at least four Husker basketball games with my family as a kid.  One game in particular I remember is when Nebraska was down by eight point with about a minute to go in the game.  My family left because we thought the game was over.  To our disbelief, the huskers came back and won the game.  We found this out while listening to the radio on the way home.  What a game to leave early, dang!

Now back the ticket package to Nebraska Men’s basketball games that I bought while in high school.  This ticket package was for at least four or five basktball games (usually on Wednesday nights or Saturday nights) during my junior year of high school. The were good seats in the Bob Devaney, we were right behind the vistors bench in the bleachers.  For one of the games, we made signs on posterboard.  I think it was for the Iowa State game.  Dedric Willoughby played for the Iowa State Cyclones at this time.  He was quite a shooter, particularly from long range.  I think he sunk about seven or eight three-pointers when Nebraska played them.  He could handle the ball well, too.  I was so glad I purchased my Nebraska basketball tickets for that game.  Well worth the money.

Stay tuned for more adventures concerning Cornhusker basketball tickets, Nebraska football tickets, and Nebraska shirts.  Take care Husker Nation.

Nebraska Cornhusker Shirts are great Christmas Presents

December 19th, 2007 · No Comments

Do you want Nebraska shirt for Christmas? I’m sure every Husker fan has dreamed of getting some article of clothing such as a Cornhuskers Tshirt, Nebraska sweatshirt, or some other Nebraska fan gear. I think that maybe I’ll ask for a red Husker shirt this year.  I already have quite a few other red NU shirts, but I can always wear more, right?!

Speaking of acquiring a new Nebraska shirt brings up the question, “Do I ever throw away any of my Husker shirts?”.  The simple answer is, “yes”.  The longer and more drawn out answer still remains, “yes”!  No matter how you look at it, if you are a true blue (or red) Nebraska football fan, you would never want to throw away any of your Husker shirts. Just like songs on the radio, I attach a special memory to each of my T-shirts.

Here are some of my memories for my Cornhusker tee shirts and jerseys:

1. I received my favorite, “lucky” Nebraska shirt from my grandmother.  I love my grandma, and also love the shirts she gives me.  I believe she bought this for me in Texas. Now, I am not really a football fan of any Texas teams, but I will still wear shirts that have been bought for me in Texas.

2. My long sleeved red Nebraska shirt. I received this from her for Christmas.  What a great holiday present! I only wear it once in a while, because I don’t do very many red loads of wash. I really should hire a mad to launder my shirts, you know…

3. I used to have a red nylon mesh Husker jersey that I wore ALL the time.  I probably had it and wore it for at least six years. I guess that’s not a long time for a jersey.  On this Husker jersey, it had a white screen print that said “Husker Football” with an illustration of a football centered on the shirt.  I still might have this jersey packed away somewhere, or it might have been sold at one of our family garage sales.

Those are all of my Husker clothing memories I can think of at the moment.  If you have an unbelievable story about some article of clothing (Nebraska related) please add a comment and make all of our days that much brighter!  adios muchachos!
